Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

-
1. Is MediQi for everyone? Is there anyone who wouldn't benefit from a session?MediQi (medical Qigong) is for everyone of all ages. It's a lifestyle-based healing method used to contribute to creating optimum health of your body, and may also be used to treat conditions that are resistant to conventional treatment methods. Sessions have helped past & present clients heal chronic illnesses (fibromyalgia), relieve deep muscle pains (long term back pain), increase energy levels, resolve insomnia, create a deep sense of peace within themselves, reconnect to their body, clear childhood trauma, regulate the nervous system and create more harmony and balance in their body, mind and spirit. Not only do you take your car in when you need repairs (pain issues/damage), you also get it regularly serviced to prevent issues (injury). Through a MediQi session, we create health and vitality by optimising the flow of Qi in the body, contributing to the repair of muscles, blood, bone, and the resolve of many other imbalances & illnesses in the body. Whether you have physical, emotional, mental or spiritual pain which you'd like to shift, MediQi is for you.

2. What does a session involve?A MediQi session will last approximately 45 minutes, and you (the client) will lie on a massage table on your back with a pillow under your head. There is nothing you require to do or say during a session, your job is just to get comfortable, relax, and let the magic happen. There is no ‘normal’ MediQi session, but what is most often reported is that there is a sense of complete relaxation. Many people go to sleep, some people have images come to them, others feel sensations in their bodies such as buzzing, tingling or shivers. Some people even report feeling energy (Qi) moving throughout their body.

3. How does it work?Medical Qigong is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice that uses the concept of qi to promote healing and wellness. It's a holistic approach that addresses the root cause of disease, rather than just symptoms. Medical Qigong is based on the TCM understanding that qi (life force energy; literally, “vital breath”) flows through invisible meridians (channels) of the body. This energy network connects organs, tissues, veins, nerves, cells, atoms and consciousness itself. Generally speaking, there are 12 major meridians, each of which connects to one of the 12 major organs in TCM theory. It is understood that when the body's qi is lacking (or in excess) disease and illness are present. Therefore, the goal of a MediQi session is to optimise and balance the flow of qi throughout the body in order to restore the body's natural innate healing ability. Restore the flow of qi and restore health. During a session, the MediQi Practitioner use the radial pulse as a biofeedback system to discover the source of unbalanced health condition, which organ it is related to, and which meridians are affected. Through pulse diagnosis the MediQi Practitioner becomes aware of the organs that are lacking qi / toxic / out of balance, and proceeds to balance the qi in these organs through intention, mind and breath. In simple terms, MediQi is a form of energy work or needleless acupuncture - using the same meridian channels and points as an acupuncturist does during a session - to enhance (and optimise) the flow of qi in the body. Medical Qigong may be used to treat conditions that are resistant to conventional treatment methods, and can be practiced as an adjunct to Western medicine.

4. What can I expect after a session?Immediately after a session most clients usually report feeling like they've had a deep sleep, and have a heightened sense of clarity, peace and an alleviation of pain. They often feel a lot "more balanced", grounded and more themselves. The results you experience the following few days / week after a session can be subtle, and they can be profound - each individual often receives something completely different from a session. However, as our goal in MediQi is to balance you between heaven and earth, it is rare that clients don't feel more nourished and balanced and have more energy to go about their day as their body is beginning to function more optimally. After a MediQi session, people report: Relief / remission from long-term health conditions Relief from long-term pain Improved sleep Increased energy Greater sense of peace, clarity and joy in every of their life More regulated nervous system MediQi sessions also have the ability to change the consciousness in those who receive treatment, and as a result you can have different situations appear in your life after a session. This is neither good nor bad but a result of you balancing your body, mind & spirit, which may result in you requiring a rebalance in your outside world. How you react and change your outside world is up to you.

5. How many sessions are recommended? The number of sessions you need depends on the condition you're treating, its severity, and how your body responds to the MediQi sessions, however 4-6 sessions is generally recommended for new clients to allow the body to find a new equilibrium of balance and consolidation of changes. As MediQi not only works on a physical level but also a mental/emotional/spiritual level, the amount of sessions you choose also depends on what level of transformation and awareness you would like to access. Results can be seen in as little as one treatment, though a few more sessions may be required for more durable effects, and lasting changes. The full picture of one’s health and the nature of the issue will be taken into consideration during your first session to provide a personal treatment timeframe.

6. Are MediQi & acupuncture similar?Medical Qigong and acupuncture are both practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and are both very similar in how they approach the body and move Qi throughout the meridan channels during a session. The biggest difference is that Medical Qigong does not use physical needles to puncture the skin, but instead the MediQi practitioner uses a directed focus of Qi (through breath, mind and intention) to bring the body back into harmony and balance. TCM acupuncture relies on physical needles to be the antennas of Source Qi into the meridian channels of the body, whilst the MediQi Practitioner is the antenna. "If two acupuncturists apply the same technique, the one with more Qigong training will be more effective. When I hold the needle, the needle is not the needle. My whole body is a needle - an antenna for the universal breath of Heaven and Earth" - Dr Wong.

7. I practice (or have heard of) Qigong. How is Medical Qigong different?Qigong is a Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice that involves physical postures, breathing techniques, and mental focus, practiced to improve health, calm the mind, and reconnect with one's spirit. Medical qigong is a branch of qigong that focuses on using qigong to improve health and treat disease. Medical qigong is often used as a complementary or integrative therapy. Qigong can be practiced for general health and well-being, while medical qigong is used to treat specific medical issues. Qigong can be practiced in groups or one-on-one, while medical qigong is usually practiced one-on-one with a trained practitioner.

8. Where does MediQi originate from?Medical Qigong is a practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is at least 2,300 years old - one of the world's oldest medical systems. The teachings and fundamentals of Medical Qigong and MediQi is based from the teachings of the the Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic). It is an ancient treatise on health and disease written by the famous Chinese emperor Huangdi around 2600BC. That opus provided the theoretical concepts for TCM that remain the basis of its practice today. MediQi also further originates from the teachings of the Chinese Medical Qigong text books and from Greg William’s book Awaken the Qi Within, in which the ancient Chinese and Japanese Medical texts were translated.
How is MediQi Therapy different?
MediQi Therapy is an ancient yet scientifically grounded healing system designed to harmonize the Mind, Body, and Spirit. Its purpose is to guide the body back to a state of balance and homeostasis, ultimately activating its innate ability to heal itself.
A MediQi session works by addressing and clearing energetic blockages and imbalances that contribute to physical, emotional, and spiritual discomfort or illness, by balancing the flow Qi along the meridan channels (used in acupuncture).
In today’s world, many modern healing practices tend to focus primarily on symptoms, often detaching us from the root causes of our pain. Whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, symptoms are typically treated in isolation, which can prevent a deeper understanding of the underlying imbalances at play.
MediQi, however, takes a different approach. It recognizes that dis-ease, disorder, and disharmony are not random occurrences or the result of external pathology, but rather manifestations of imbalances in the flow of Qi—the vital life force energy that circulates through all organs and systems of the body. When this flow is blocked, disrupted, or weakened, physical ailments, emotional turbulence, and spiritual distress can arise.
Unlike conventional practices that tend to isolate and analyze individual parts of the body, MediQi offers a comprehensive, holistic method of healing. Its aim is not just to alleviate symptoms but to identify and restore balance to the root causes of dis-ease.
At its core, MediQi is designed to eliminate energetic imbalances in the Body, Mind & Spirit, leading to the resolution of suffering and the restoration of balance.
By clearing blockages and correcting imbalances, MediQi supports the body's natural healing ability, promoting health, vitality, and longevity, helping to prevent dis-ease and support a fuller, more balanced life.
In a world that often overlooks the interconnectedness of Body, Mind, & Spirit, MediQi offers a holistic pathway to health and well-being, inviting us all to return to a state of balance and wholeness.
